Our featured salsero this month is BX. A common feature at Union Square and Two Left Feet Social Nights, this bubbly lady has lived in more than seven countries throughout her lifetime. She loves dancing and counts Salsa, Bachata, Zouk and West Coast Swing as  her passions. Here's more about BX:

How long ago was it since you first started salsa dancing? And where was it?
I took my very first beginner's salsa class one wintry Saturday when I was in college in New York - but it was so cold the next weekend that I never made it back! When I moved to Singapore last year, I heard about the salsa scene and decided to try it again - so I signed up for classes at Two Left Feet in October 2008. I can't believe I've been dancing for over a year already - time's passed incredibly quickly.

What made you decide to pick up salsa?
I really love partner dancing! Plus, there's this really really cute guy in "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights." Definitely an inspiration :)

How did you hear about Two Left Feet?
Through a colleague actually! I was googling salsa schools at work, and she told me that she'd taken and enjoyed classes at Two Left Feet. After hearing her glowing recommendation, a friend and I had to sign up!

What do you think is the best thing about salsa?
The really awesome feeling you get when you and your partner are perfectly in-sync, and you follow that complex move or body isolation groovy move perfectly. Its all about that connection with your partner.

What was the best experience you’ve ever had on the dance floor?
I keep having new best experiences, which is one of the reasons I love salsa. There are always more great dances to be had. Most recently, I had an amazing string of dances during the last social night at SISF 2009. Everyone was warmed up from the (many many many) hours of workshops etc over the weekend, and was ready to let loose and enjoy the last night. Also, the workshops this year really brought out the importance of dancing to the music, so all my partners were having fun experimenting and playing with the music, which is (personally) more satisfying than a series of turn patterns.

What was the most embarrassing experience you’ve ever had on the dance floor (please use pseudonyms)?
Oh there are too many to count! One of my more memorably embarrassing experiences happened during one of my first few visits to Union Square. I was dancing with a fellow beginner and we decided to practice our cross body lead turns. I could feel myself spinning out of control - first I crashed into the (kinda sharp) corner of the pillar near the stage, then on the way back, I crashed into an unsuspecting couple on the other side. On our third cross body lead turn, I encountered the pillar again...this time face first.

Yeah. I try to avoid that pillar nowadays :)

Describe your perfect dance partner.
My perfect dance partner has a clear lead, smiles, and plays with the music. He has great tension, and uses it to lead fun and unexpected moves. When dancing on a crowded floor, he watches out to prevent accidents from occurring too frequently. He gives you time to style. Most importantly, he enjoys the dance and shows it.

How has your life changed since you picked up salsa?
I've met some really great people through salsa and had some really fun experiences. Also, I now feel really odd if I don't dance at least once or twice a week.

What is your salsa goal for this month?
a) stand up straight!!!
b) be able to triple spin consistently when with a partner, and to double spin consistently on my own

(these goals may actually take more than a month to fulfill)
