Our featured salsero this week is Amit.
Although Amit started Salsa only 10 months ago, he's already
performed at various events, and is now busy preparing for
upcoming performances at the Singapore International Salsa
Festival and the Sydney Salsa Congress. A project manager at a
foreign bank, Amit enjoys listening to romantic Bollywood songs
and dancing Salsa, Bachata and Zouk in his free time. Here's what
else Amit has to

How
long ago was it since you first started salsa dancing? And where was
it?
About 10 months ago, at Two Left Feet. |
|
What made
you decide to pick up salsa?
I hardly knew anything about Salsa when I started. I just wanted to
learn one partner dance well, but didn't know which one to go about. I
started Tango and Salsa in parallel and had plans to experiment a few
more, but once I got the taste of Salsa, everything else appeared
tasteless. It was definitely filled with so much fun, and the videos I
found on the internet were so enjoyable and inspiring at the same time.
That was the end of my search/research and beginning of a new chapter. |

How did you hear about Two Left
Feet?

What do
you think is the best thing about salsa?
Variety. You can never get enough of any aspect of it. There's variety
in Music, in Styles, in Moves and in People across the globe who love
it. And once you start Salsa, it also opens the door to many other
dances. |

What was
the best experience youve ever had on the dance floor?
It happened during one of the BailaCuba performances. The music was
live and awesome. During their final performance, one of the dancers
dragged me to the dance floor and even though we danced nothing more
than basic steps with a few very simple moves, her expressions, energy,
and smile mixed with the live music made the dance unforgettable. I
can't express in words how good it was, but the only thing I would say
is I have yet to experience anything close to it. |

What was
the most embarrassing experience youve ever had on the dance floor
(please use pseudonyms)?
It was the time when I had just started taking social dancing
seriously, after my performance at Upper Club. This lady knew that I was
in the Two Left Feet performance team, and asked me for a dance,
expecting it to be good. But Alas! It was NOT. During the dance she
disconnected herself and started her shines. As she was very good in her
shines, she was kind of the "centre of attraction" on the floor, and I
was dancing (?) there almost doing nothing. She rejected my leads and
didn't let me start any partner work again for the rest of the song. I
felt so incompetent and low and of course embarrassed. That is when I
learnt - Performing is not enough! |

How has
your life changed since you picked up salsa?
Ah! It's really difficult to imagine how it would have been without it.
Making a lot of friends is just one of the good things, and knowing my
limitations and ways to overcome them is another. I must mention here
that if it was not Jean & Wendy, it would probably have been a different
story. It’s almost impossible to find Instructors so loving and so
strict at the same time. Thanks to the designer of this Web site... the
reason why I started with Two Left Feet :-) |

What is
your salsa goal for this month?
Fixing my turns and spins. It has been my goal for several months now :( |
