How do I turn down a dance without hurting the person's feelings?
Tina says:
Depending on why you turn down the dance actually, if you
are:
1. Really tired that your feet feel like they will drop
off and be left on the dance floor if you danced another
dance
2. Dance floor is so packed that the dancers are beginning
to resemble sardines in a can
3. Had a bad experience with dancing with that guy before
(then again, you may want to test him out again, maybe,
just maybe his style has changed?? give that man a
chance!)
4. The guy has BO/is drenched in sweat
No matter which of the above reasons apply, you may only
use excuse no. 1 - 2!! Say you are tired and you want to
sit that dance out, and then REALLY sit that dance out. Do
NOT turn around and agree to another guy's request, even
if the other guy's your favourite dancer or if he is drop
dead gorgeous! sob sob! :(

Khalid says:
What I usually do is say I’ve got a bad back, or simply
light a cigarette when I sense someone approaching me for
a dance. ;-) If all else fails, I just run to the toilet.
But do note, if you use the first excuse, you cannot dance
with another person the whole night.

Mary says:
I don't recall having turned down a salsa dance
intentionally, but here're a couple of my suggestions:
1) Suddenly reach into your pocket for your phone and
pretend to answer it. Walk away as if you cant hear the
other party (make sure you wear a look that say it's
urgent)
2) Suddenly go into a coughing fit and tell him you'll
dance with him after you spit out the horrible green
phlegm in your throat (guarantee he wont ask you again for
the night!)
3) Drop on all fours and start looking for your "missing"
contact lens.
4) Ask the guy back if he minds you trying out this new
styling you learnt, then show him your worst Gorilla Jump
Over the Wall styling move. (Guarantee he wont EVER ask
you for another dance!)
(Jean's note: BTW, Mary's only kidding.)

Kelvin (Yee)
says:
- If I am genuinely tired, I'll tell her truthfully and
then ask her back for a dance later on.
- If I don't feel like
dancing with that person-----never happen unless she
constantly makes me feel uncomfortable. Otherwise, my
answer is always okay cos I think being asked for a dance
is a big compliment especially when a gal asks a guy
(unless you happen to be the only guy/gal that particular
night....hahahaha then it might be a different case)
- If that night I just want
to chill out, I will stay far from the dance floor and
watch ppl dance from a distance. It works; it really tells
that this person is not really keen to dance at that
moment. |
